ARCHIVING GAS ANALYZER DATA TO A FLOPPY

Note:  This feature does not apply to the New Report Generator for Windows.

It is a good idea to back up the data that you have collected.  To do so, follow the instructions listed below.

1. Insert a floppy disk into either the A or B disk drive.

2. Exit out of the NST Report Generator program.

3. At the C:\GAS> prompt type the following:

    a) Type: A: (Hit Enter)   or   B: (Hit Enter)

4. At the A or B prompt type the following:

    a) Type: md  GASDATA1 (Hit Enter)  (md = make directory)

NOTE: You will want to change the number of the directory each time you make one so that you do not over write any of the data that may share the same file name.  Example: GASDATA2,      GASDATA3...etc., or you can archive by year (1995, 1996...etc.)

    b) Type: cd\GASDATA1 (Hit Enter)

    c) Type: C: (Hit Enter)

5. At the C :\GAS> prompt type the following:

    a) Type: copy *.dat  A or B:\GASDATA1 (Hit Enter)

This will copy the data on to the floppy.

6. Check to see that the copy was successful by doing the following:

    a) Type: A or B: (Hit Enter)

    b) Type: dir (Hit Enter)

7. Be sure that there are an equal number of data files in both the C:\GAS directory  and the A or B:\GASDATA1 directory.

8. Delete the files from the C:\GAS directory by doing the following:

    a) Type: C: (Hit Enter)

    b) Type: del *.dat (Hit Enter)

    c) Type: dir (Hit Enter) and be sure that this was successful

9. If you wish to view any of the files that have been archived, copy the file from the  archive floppy to the C:\GAS directory and view it through the NST Report  Generator program.  To copy a file, type the following at the A or B:\GASDATA1 prompt:

    a) Type: copy filename.dat c:\rec (Hit Enter)

    b) Type: C: (Hit Enter)

    c) Type: dir (Hit Enter) to be sure that the copy was successful
